  • 5 oz dark chocolate

How to make it

Steps in our own plain words.

  1. Start by making the biscuit base.

  2. Over a pan of simmering water, melt your butter with the sugar and cocoa powder in a bowl.

  3. Stir every so often until smooth.

  4. Whisk in your egg for 2 to 3 mins till the mixture has thickened.

  5. Take it off the heat.

  6. Mix in almonds, coconut and the biscuit crumbs if using.

  7. Press in your base of a lined 8 inches square tin.

  8. Chill for 10 mins.

  9. For your middle layer, make the custard icing.

  10. Whisk the custard powder, cream and butter until light and fluffy.

  11. Gradually add the icing sugar until fully mixed in.

  12. Spread over the bottom layer.

  13. Chill in your fridge for at least 10 mins till the custard is no longer soft.

  14. Melt your chocolate and butter together in the microwave.

  15. Spread over the chilled bars.

  16. Put back in the fridge.

  17. Leave till the chocolate has fully set (around 2 hrs).

  18. Take the mixture out of the tin.

  19. Slice into squares to serve.
