  • ¾ lb kale
  • ¾ cup heavy cream Shopping tip: Heavy cream or heavy whipping cream (UK: double cream).

Sauces & oils

Spices & seasonings (1): salt
  • Dash salt

How to make it

Steps in our own plain words.

  1. Heat your 1 ½ tablespoons of oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat until shimmering.

  2. Add the onions.

  3. Cook, until softened, 5 to 7 minutes.

  4. Stir every so often.

  5. Add the shredded kale to the onions.

  6. Mix well.

  7. Turn the heat to medium-low, cover.

  8. Cook for 5 minutes.

  9. After 5 minutes, remove the lid.

  10. Add salt to taste.

  11. Stir in the cream.

  12. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes, uncovered.

  13. Stir every so often.

  14. The cream will thicken a bit, making for deliciously rich creamed kale and onions.

  15. Dish up it up using your favorite Kenyan stew, plus a side of ugali.

On the side: Green salad

A side we added to round out the meal. It is not part of the original recipe.

How to make it (10 min)
  1. Rinse the salad greens. Slice the cucumber.
  2. Put it all in a bowl and toss with the dressing just before eating.
