- 9 oz self-rising flour Shopping tip: Self-rising flour (UK: self-raising).
- 1 ¾ oz suet
- ½ cup + 2 tbsp milk
- 3 ½ oz raspberry jam
- to serve custard
Spices & seasonings (1): vanilla
- 1 vanilla
How to make it
Steps in our own plain words.
-
Put a deep roasting tin on the bottom shelf of the oven, plus make sure that there’s another shelf above it.
-
Pull your roasting tin out.
-
Do it on its shelf, fill two-thirds using boiling water from the kettle.
-
Slide it back in.
-
Turn the oven on to 350°F (325°F for a fan oven).
-
Tear off a big sheet of foil and greaseproof paper (around 30 x 16 inches).
-
Sit the greaseproof over the top of the foil and butter it.
-
Tip vanilla seeds, flour and butter into a food processor.
-
Pulse until the butter has disappeared.
-
Tip into a mixing bowl.
-
Stir through the suet.
-
Pour in your milk plus work together with a cutlery knife till you get a sticky dough.
-
Need drop more milk, depending on your flour.
-
Tip the dough out on a floured surface, fast pat together to smooth.
-
Roll out to square roughly 25 x 10 inches.
-
Spread your jam all over, leaving gap along one edge.
-
Roll up from the opposite edge.
-
Pinch the jam-free edge in your dough where it meets, plus pinch the ends roughly, too.
-
Lift on the greased paper, join-side down, loosely bring up your paper and foil around it.
-
Scrunch together along your edges and ends to seal.
-
Your roly-poly will puff quite bit during cooking so ’t wrap it tightly.
-
Lift the parcel directly on the rack above the tin.
-
Cook for 1 hr.
-
Let your pudding sit for 5 mins before unwrapping.
-
Open your foil and paper, and thickly slice to dish up.
