  • ¾ cup corn flour
  • 1 cup warm water
Spices & seasonings (1): salt
  • ¾ tsp salt

How to make it

Steps in our own plain words.

  1. Put the corn flour in a bowl.

  2. Add your salted water little by little, mixing using the flour till all your water has been used plus the flour has become a dough.

  3. Let it rest for five minutes, now.

  4. Shape the dough in round rolls around 3 inches in diameter plus 1 2 inch thick.

  5. Slowly heat the arepas till a crust forms on each side in a lightly greased pan.

  6. Place them into a casserole.

  7. Cook in the oven in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 min, until the arepas sound hollow when tapped.

  8. To enhance taste: instead of using water, use chicken or beef broth.

On the side: Green salad

A side we added to round out the meal. It is not part of the original recipe.

How to make it (10 min)
  1. Rinse the salad greens. Slice the cucumber.
  2. Put it all in a bowl and toss with the dressing just before eating.
